I suggest you go to the South Magazine at this address: http://ww2.thesouthmag.com/. This is a very popular magazine that does a great job of providing very useful information on the city.
There are so many great places to eat in Savannah that you can not go wrong on selecting any of the places on River Street; however, our favorite seafood place is River House which is on River Street. Food is great, salad is prepared in front of you, bread is baked in house and the coffee is awesome. They use a coffee press. The prices are fair and the service is also very good. ... See More
Where to stay? If you like a Bed & Breakfast, I suggest Savannah BnB in the historic area. They get great reviews and I know the people who own the inn and they are great. You can check their place at www.savannahbnb.com. If a hotel is your option, the River Street Inn is very good. If you don't mind driving there are a number of motels in mid-town along the main north-south street (Abercorn). Most of the motels are about 10 miles from the historic area.
There are literally dozen of tours you can take and a good place to visit on the net and in person is our CVB. They have a visitors center on Martin Luther King Blvd and have tons of information. It is also the place to find the tour companies. You might want to go to Google and type in "Savannah Ghost Tours" and you will see a listing with REVIEWS. I am told the Ghost Walk Tour is very good and I see that it has great reviews.
If you have a car, I suggest you visit/tour the following (not in the order of priority)
1. Bluff Drive in Isle of Hope. This beautiful street on the Intercoastal waterway is where a lot of movies are made.
2. On the way, stop and visit Wormsloe Plantation. Beautiful drive to the visitors center.
3. Go to Tybee and just hang out
4. On the way or coming back to the city, stop and tour Fort Pulaski. Robert E. Lee was one of the engineers that built the Fort.
5. Here is link that you can use to make a list of things you want to to do. BUT, do take a "guided" tour of the historic area because you can not see all of it by yourself. Suggest, you get the tour guide that allows you to get on and off so you can spend more time at a specific location.
